An American Car Against Ferrari

Is it true that Ford got his revenge against Ferrari when it fielded the Shelby Cobra Dayton in the Le Mans of the mid-50s?

Answer:  The revenge was really more the action of a rich kid who was refused entry into a prestigious club.  I’m talking about Edsel Ford who was jilted at the last minute over a transaction for Ford to buy out Ferrari.  As a result, Ford muscled all his resources to make sure that Ferrari gets a drumbeating in the next LeMans.

He got it alright, beating out the legendary 250GTOs in as many LeMans and Daytona races as his Fort GT40 could muster, not the Shelby Cobra which, I have to say, also brought down many Ferrari entries in the earlier Le Mans of the 50s.
