The multichannel surround sound is already a decade old as far as home entertainment is concerned.  It’s about as old as the DVD that has made all that possible.

And over the last few years, I’ve seen an emerging interest in doing the same for the small space inside cars.  Vans and SUVs might be a good place to start but I recall riding a cab that actually had 5.1 channels for its audio system, complete with a sub-woofer.

It even has a ceiling-mounted 5-inch LCD screen crudely screwed onto it by the cab owner.  It was entertaining alright. The cabbie was playing a Star Wars movie and for a while, I was so engrossed I almost forgot to get off the cab.
